WHAT IS EMS TRAINING?

Electric muscle stimulation (EMS) is a 20-minute training program designed to build muscle, increase strength, burn fat, improve posture, strengthen the mind-muscle connection and improve overall body composition.

EMS is the elicitation of muscle contraction using electric impulses.

The impulses are generated by a device and delivered through electrodes to the skin surface above the muscles to be stimulated. The impulses cause the muscles to contract, so the result is similar to the actual movement and regular contractions of the muscles.

EMS training can be used for conditioning and strengthening of muscles, it is truly the training of the 21st century.

  • During traditional strength training the brain sends impulses which stimulate certain muscles to contract. However, not all muscles have a well-developed connection to the brain and these muscles are not activated as easily and therefore they will not develop so well.

    EMS Training stimulates all the major muscle groups and also helps to develop the motoric nerve connections relating to muscle movement. By sending electrical impulses directly to these motoric nerves, even the weakly connected muscles are activated.

    Because muscle fibers are activated in a non-regular order with EMS Training, a more intense level of training is enabled from the start, which creates more muscle fiber at an accelerated rate. More active muscle tissue requires more energy intake which therefore burns more calories, even at rest!

what to expect for your first session

I recommend you drink at least 500ml of water and avoid eating 2 hours prior to your initial session.

We will start by chatting about your lifestyle, overall physical condition and of course, your fitness goals.

Suit Prep:
You will then be provided with special EMS under-layers for you to change into. Made of stretch cotton, they will be worn under the suit to ensure you receive stimulation to all of your individual muscle groups. While you change, your certified instructor will prepare your suit by spraying all the electrodes that will come in contact with you with warm water. The water is to allow pulses to pass through, helping recruit more muscle fibers. No water. No activation

Calibration:
Together we will go through what we call the “calibration”. It’s a fancy way to say “your settings”. We set the intensity of the pulses of each pad to a level that is suited for you. You get to help us set it up. Wondering how you will know if the intensity is right? No sweat. We give you a few pointers to ensure you know what you are looking for in terms of feeling. 

Will it hurt? No. It is completely painless, just a little unusual at first. You will quickly get to love the feeling and look forward to that muscle tightening sensation.

Working Out:
After calibration, it is now time to work out! I will guide you and demonstrate a variety of exercises that will help you meet your goals. Your efforts will be structured around intervals which means that you will receive pulses for 6 seconds while executing a simple movement followed by 4 seconds of rest. While you are performing each exercise, I will adjust the intensity of the electrodes to optimize contraction of each muscle.

20 minutes will fly by. At the end of your session, I will help you remove the suit. You can expect an immediate toning and lifting effect.

EMS Cardiovascular training is a 25 minutes session aiming at burning the maximum amount of calories in the shortest period of time while sending low-frequency impulses to every muscle group without any break in between.

This results in exhaustion and conditioning of muscles as quickly as possible which in turn, aside from burning approximately 1000 calories, you will gain a tremendous amount of endurance noticeable in the 3rd week of your training.

So if you are a runner, you will be able to run about 30% more with ease, if you are swimmer you will be able to swim a lot farther than your past records. You will notice a big improvement in your performance in any repetitive sport you do.
